Exam Invigilators

St Michael’s Catholic College have vacancies for exam invigilators for six weeks in May & June. No experience necessary, full training will be given for this paid role. Full details on the poster at the back of the cathedral 

The Apostleship of the Sea

A gentle reminder to parents that when they bring their children to Church they are responsible for their safety and welfare. Children should not be wandering about the Cathedral or the Amigo Hall unsupervised.

Director of Music - Norman Harper

Our Director of Music, Norman Harper, will be retiring from his post at the end of the year and we will shortly be advertising for a replacement. Norman has done a tremendous amount to develop the music at St George's for which we are extremely grateful. There will be an opportunity to formally thank Norman towards the end of the year.

Blessed Oscar Romero

The welcome announcement was made by the Vatican this week that Blessed Oscar Romero is to be canonised. A date has yet to be set for the ceremony. On Saturday 24 March at 12.30pm Archbishop Peter will celebrate Mass in the cathedral on the feast of Blessed Oscar. All are welcome to attend.

Eucharistic Adoration

Eucharistic Adoration will take place in the Day Chapel on Friday from 8am, ending with Benediction at 5.45pm and Mass at 6pm. There will also be Adoration on Saturday morning from 10am until 12.15pm.

Pilgrimage to Lourdes

The annual Catholic Association pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place from 24 to 31 August and be led by Archbishop Peter.  Full details at the back of the cathedral.

Stations of the Cross

There will be Stations of the Cross on each Sunday of Lent at 5pm.

Weekday Evening Mass for Lent

From Monday 19 February until Friday 23 March there will be a Mass at 6pm in the Day Chapel.

Gospel Music Concert

A concert of Gospel music performed by schools and college of the diocese will take place in the cathedral on Friday 23 March at 7pm. Tickets £8 on the door.

Marriage Encounter

Enrich your marriage with a Marriage Encounter weekend. This non-residential event, taking place on 28 / 29 April in Purley, Croydon, is aimed at couples with average/good marriages who would like to make them a bit better.  It is designed for couples married a few years or some decades.  Those who have attended this weekend in the past have all spoken very highly indeed about the experience.  Here is your chance to improve your communication skills and your relationship (there is no group work). SVP Food Bank Collection – Do Something for Lent.

Our St Vincent de Paul Society continues to work with the Waterloo Foodbank to collect food for local people in crisis.  As part of your Lenten penance why not deny yourself something and buy some food to donate to this worthwhile appeal.  Collection baskets are at the back of the cathedral.

We have a small but enthusiastic group of parishioners who work together to help those in need - the lonely and isolated or those who don't have enough food to eat or even a home to live in.  You could help this vital work by joining the parish SVP group and giving a little of your time to helping others.  Call 07716 533621 to find out more.

St George’s Cathedral Choirs CD

The CD recording produced by our Cathedral Choirs is now available. Entitled: “O Sacrum Convivium - Music for the Mass”, it features our Girls’ Choir, Boys’ Choir, Choral Scholars and Lay Clerks.  It costs £12 per CD.  The CDs are available to buy in the repository after the 10am and 11.30am Masses, where payment is accepted by cash and cheque.  The CDs can also be ordered online using a credit or debit card by clicking here:

Adoremus - Eucharist in the Life of the Church: Liverpool 7-9 September 2018

The bishops of England and Wales will hold a National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress in Liverpool on 7-9 September.  The purpose of it is to promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Church.  Although only a small number from the diocese will be able to attend it is hoped that many will be involved through preparation and post congress events.  More details are at the back of the cathedral.
