St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, formally the Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St George, is the Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Southwark, which covers the London boroughs south of the Thames, the county of Kent and the Medway Unitary Authority.

Music
St George's Cathedral has a well-established musical tradition, with a diversity of styles represented at the different Masses, ranging from congregational hymns and Mass settings at the 10am Family Mass sung by the Cathedral Consort youth choir, through plainsong and polyphony at the 12pm Solemn Mass sung by the Cathedral Choir of choristers and lay clerks. There is also a Junior Choir for younger children and the Cathedral runs the Southwark Singing Programme.

June: Month of the Sacred Heart

In the month of June, the Christian world honours the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord, whose infinite love calls us to humility and service.

On Friday 16 June we will celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus; further details of our liturgical celebrations of this feast of Christ’s love will appear in next week’s newsletter.
